You know how it feels, you are out driving around trying to tune in a music channel on the radio…
But seriously, this is an interesting bit of information that has been released after 40 years of NASA keeping it under wraps. I’m sure they had a good reason.
This is a conversation that took place between Apollo 10 astronauts John Young and Eugene Cernan while they were out for a cruise around the dark side of the moon.
“Did you hear that whistling sound too?”
“I wonder what it is.”
Although the transcripts were originally released in 2008, the audio of the conversation, and the “music” the astronauts heard is only now being released to the public. Do you ever wonder why it takes so long for information like this to finally be released? Anyhoo…
Was this Pink Floyd extraterrestrials?
NASA technicians believe it could simply be the “radios in the two spacecraft [the lunar module and the command module] were interfering with each other.
Astronaut Al Worden says “logic tells me that if there was something recorded on there, then there’s something there.”
Fellow astronauts do not share this opinion.
Apollo 11 astronaut Michael Collins, who was the first to fly around the dark side of the moon also recalls hearing sounds, but did not attribute it to being an outer space rock band. In his book “Carrying the Fire: An Astronaut’s Journeys.” he writes “There is a strange noise in my headset now, and eerie woo-woo sound.”
“Had I not been warned about it, it would have scared the hell out of me(…) fortunately the radio technicians(rather than UFO fans) had a ready explination for it: it was interference between the LM’s and Command Modules VHF radios”
So, listen for yourself. Those of you with radio experience may have a little more insight into what you are hearing. Are aliens jamming in the garage?
